A private family funeral service will be held for a Demorest man who police say was murdered over the weekend. Cody Stancil died from a single gunshot wound to the chest, says Stephens County Coroner Chris Van Stephens.
Authorities say Spencer Reason, 19, of Toccoa, shot the 27-year-old Stancil to death during an argument at a residence in Eastanollee on Easter Sunday. Toccoa Police located Reason soon after the shooting. Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley says he had a .38 caliber revolver and one spent casing in his possession.
During the course of their investigation, deputies arrested Reason and charged him with murder. He was booked into the Stephens County Jail.
Stancil was a husband and father of two daughters, with another daughter on the way. His family arranged for a private burial and visitation.
