The Habersham County Board of Education Monday night approved Lana Jones as the new Principal of Woodville Elementary School. She succeeds Susan Davis who is leaving to become principal at Level Grove Elementary following Darlene Hudson’s retirement.
For the past three years, Jones has served as assistant principal at Demorest Elementary School. Prior to that, she was the Academic Coach at South Habersham Middle School and a teacher. Director of Elementary Schools Rhonda Andrews says Jones has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills in those jobs and will be a “wonderful addition” to the school system’s team of elementary school principals.
“She has high expectations for students and a strong work ethic that will translate into positive outcomes for children,” Andrews adds.
Jones is a life-long resident of Habersham County and a graduate of Habersham Central High School. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics Education from The University of Georgia, a Master’s Degree in English Language Arts from Brenau University, and a Specialist Degree in Teaching and Learning from Piedmont College. In addition, she holds a Tier 1 leadership certificate from the State of Georgia.
Superintendent of Schools Matthew Cooper says he’s confident Jones is the best person for the job.
“Lana is a very enthusiastic and positive person and will be hands-on with the students at Woodville Elementary School,” says Cooper. “There is no doubt that Ms. Jones is the kind of leader that Woodville Elementary School needs.”
Her first day on the job is July 1.
