National Day of Prayer observance to be held in Downtown Cornelia

Habersham Countians are invited on May 2 to participate in a community-wide observance of the National Day of Prayer.

The 12-hour long observance will be held at the Big Red Apple in Cornelia. It will begin at 7 a.m. and end at 7 p.m. Each hour will be led by different organizations. Organizer Myrna Fouts says the aim is to cover our community in prayer. “Prayer always works,” she says. “It is extremely valuable.”

This year’s theme is “Love One Another.” The program will include times of guided prayer focusing on military, education, media, family, church, government, and business.

This is a collaborative effort with representation by First Presbyterian Church of Cornelia, First United Methodist Church, HUB Ministry, Shady Grove Baptist Church, City of Cornelia, Lambs Ministry, Iglesia Principe de Paz, Foursquare Church, the Cornelia VFW, Whitfield Funeral Home & Beth Shalom.

“We are always happy to do what we can to help organize and facilitate this event,” says Cornelia Community Development Manager Jessie Owensby. “Ms. Fouts has done an excellent job focusing on inclusivity. This is undoubtedly the most diverse event in Habersham County. We are thankful to be able to help unify the people in our community.”

The public is encouraged to attend. Stay all day or drop in as you can. The Big Red Apple is located at 102 Grant Place right next to the Historic Train Depot & Museum in Cornelia.
