Lena Garner says she was watching cartoons with her daughters when the show was interrupted by the news. “I couldn’t believe what was happening and thought that it was some sort of prank or an advertisement for a movie,” she writes.
Garner remained in “Total disbelief for weeks afterward.”
“Today,” she says, “I sat in a room with a bunch of kids that didn’t even realize what day it was.”
As she reflects on this anniversary, Garner encourages parents to “Teach your children about events, tell them how it effected (sic) you personally, give history real perspective.”

“They cancelled class for the rest of the day, and I’m sure I went home scared for our country and trying to process what was happening,” she writes. “It’s only as we’ve remember(ed) over the years that I truly understood the devastation that took place that day!”
Carly Vonier Gerrard was eating breakfast at home when she heard the news. She expresses what so many others who witnessed the attacks felt. Vonier says she found herself “Wondering how and why and knowing our world would be forever changed!”
