One driver injured in dual tractor-trailer accident

A driver sustained minor injuries Tuesday when his tractor-trailer was rear-ended by another truck on GA 365 at Duncan Bridge Road.

It happened around 1:45 a.m., according to the Georgia State Patrol.

45-year-old Mark Edward Blakely of Canon, GA was driving a 2007 Freightliner Conventional tractor-trailer northbound. He stopped for a traffic light at the intersection and, when it turned green, started moving forward. That’s when the accident happened.

The State Patrol report says the second driver failed to recognize the truck in front of him was moving slower than normal. The front bumper of the 2012 Freightliner Cascadia 125 he was driving struck the trailer on Blakely’s semi. The impact sent Blakely’s truck into the center gore area of the highway. The other tractor-trailer ran off the road and traveled on the right shoulder before coming to a rest facing north.

An ambulance transported Blakely to Habersham Medical Center for treatment.

The other driver, identified as 40-year-old Anthony Jevis Smiley of Newnan, was not injured. He’s charged with following too closely.
