Tallulah Falls cross country geared up for the Ekiden, as described by coach Scott Neal.
SCOTT NEAL – It was obvious we were no longer in a solar eclipse because slogans like “feel the breeze” and “eat the sun and spit out ice” and “you’ll cool off when you slow down” just don’t ease the broken faucets of sweat glands oozing from the pores of tenacious harriers determined to defy common sense (who runs in a sweltering outdoor steam room?) so they can develop – and at the same time extract – any minutia of fortitude.
Who plops their feet over and over again to a fatiguing cadence while out of sight only to become Usain Bolt down the homestretch. XC runners, that’s who. No time outs. No substitutes. Other sports’ punishment. That’s cross country. The Ekiden is a 10k coed race where a pair of girls and a duo of boys run relay style in any order a 3k loop with the the combined time placing the quartet. The TFS teams are below:
