Claude R. Moser

Claude Rankin Moser, Jr., “Randy”, 78, of Clarkesville died February 18, 2017.

He was born in Hickory, North Carolina July 15, 1938- the seventh and last child of Claude and Bland Moser.

Randy graduated from St. Stephens High School in 1957 and then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After his Honorable service in the Marine Corps, he attended Lenoir Rhyne College and graduated with a BS degree in Biology in 1963. In December, 1963, Randy married his high school sweetheart, the former Barbara Jean Carpenter, at St. Marks Lutheran church in Claremont, North Carolina. They have two daughters, Suzanne and Stephanie.

After graduating from Lenoir Rhyne, Randy began working at the Centers for Disease Control. He retired after 33 years of dedicated service to the United States government. During his years of service at the CDC, he directly contributed to the public health needs of the citizens of the United States and people throughout the world. His assignments as a public health advisor took him to North Carolina, Maryland, Texas, Oklahoma and Georgia. He also served in international positions in Liberia, Ghana, India, Indonesia and was actively involved in the worldwide smallpox eradication program.

After retirement, he and his wife, Barbara, settled in Clarkesville and became active in a variety of volunteer conservation activities. Randy was a founding member of the Soque River Watershed Association (SWRA). He was also a Georgia Master Gardener and was actively involved in the Headwaters master gardener program. Randy and Barbara were members of Faith Lutheran church in Cleveland and active members in the Southeastern Synod Green Team.

He found incredible joy in his favorite hobbies: gardening, woodworking, and watching college basketball. He found his greatest enjoyment, though, in spending time with his family.

Randy is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Barbara; his daughter, Suzanne, and her husband Bill Wade, and their daughters, Taylor and Hailey, of Clarkesville; and his daughter, Stephanie, and her husband Anthony Pridemore and their daughter, Grace of Augusta, GA. He is also survived by a sister, Dottie and her husband Jerry Smith of Jackson, Tennessee.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Cleveland, GA on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 11:00 am.
