Elvia Cook Carlan, age 93, of Alto, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2024.
Born on August 17, 1931, in Alto, she was a daughter of the late Willie Cook and Daisy Faulkner Cook. Mrs. Carlan retired from Mt. Vernon Mills and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Monroe Jackson “JM” Carlan; daughter, Louise C. Nix; brothers, Clinton Cook and Starlin Cook; sisters, Ellen Martin Newberry, Ellaree Wade, Nora Boggus, Lovenia Dalton, Amberson Wade Carlyle, and Lola Bailey.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Marvin Carlan (Sharon) of Alto; son-in-law, Earl Nix, Sr. of Gillsville; grandchildren, Porsha Chalmers (Jim Carson), Elaine Williams (Jeff), Jane Smith (Mike), Craig Carlan (Ashley), Earl Nix, Jr. (Crystal), Rhonda Carlan (Marcus Shackelford), Kimberly Bennett (Joey), Larry Carlan, and Michael Thompson; 18 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, December 2, 2024, in the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin and Stewart. Interment will follow in Alta Vista Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 am until the service hour on Monday, at the funeral home.
