I have always had a love/hate relationship with math. Some subjects come really easy to me while others I have to fight not to fail the class. Geometry was one of the “fight not to fail” classes. Even if I knew the correct answer, I had a difficult time proving it, as was expected. In geometry class, sometimes the teacher would give a statement, and we had to identify if the statement was true or false “always,” “sometimes,” or “never.” For example, the more digits a number has, the larger is its value. This statement would be sometimes true. This statement is only true for positive integers. The more digits a negative number has, the smaller is its value.
One day when I was reading my Bible, it occurred to me that God often uses “always” and “never” statements. That language is not something to be taken lightly. Sometimes in class if I wasn’t sure about an answer, it was easier to choose “sometimes.” “Sometimes” allowed for uncertainty, for unknown conditions, etc. Listen to these statements that the Lord speaks over us:
From Deuteronomy 31:6: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
From Matthew 28:18-20: Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
From Psalm 136: Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love never fails.
From Romans 8:38-39: For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
The Bible is very clear about the relationship we have with the Lord. Our Father’s love for us is all consuming, unconditional, and constant. We are loved in the midst of weaknesses and in spite of our failures. Let’s remember these facts and be encouraged today that there is nothing that can separate you from the steadfast love of Jesus Christ! We can be confident that He will ALWAYS be with us; he will NEVER leave us.
How comforting it is to know that we serve a God who walks with us every day!
