Yvonne Allen Lindsay, age 86, of Clarkesville, Georgia, went to her heavenly home on Saturday, July 2, 2022, following an extended illness, at Habersham Medical Center.
Mrs. Lindsay was born on June 4, 1936, in Habersham County, Georgia, to the late Arvel and Nell Power Allen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by all eight of her brothers and sisters and was welcomed to heaven by her beloved grandson, Ashley Alley.
Yvonne graduated third in the class of 1955 from Clarkesville High School. On June 18, 1955, Yvonne married C. W. Lindsay, and they spent 67 years in a loving marriage. They began married life in a building constructed by C. W., family, and friends, that became both home and a community grocery store and gas station. Later in life, they transformed the store into an antique shop, spending 21 happy years together traveling, buying and refinishing thousands of pieces of antique furniture. They also enjoyed years of fishing and making new friends at their vacation home in Steinhatchee, Florida.
Christian faith and family were important parts of Yvonne’s life. She was a member of Amy’s Creek Baptist Church where she served in many roles. Yvonne enjoyed music and passed this on to her daughters. A loving wife and mother, she taught her four daughters the Christian way of sharing God’s love. Yvonne was known for telling everyone genuinely, “I love you.”
She is survived by her husband, C. W. “Bunky” Lindsay; four daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie Alley (Mark) of Clarkesville, Gale Watkins (Phillip) of Clarkesville, Angie Josey (Ricky) of Canon, and Lora Lindsay Waits (Jim) of Cleveland; six grandchildren, Amy Oliver (Brent), Heather Sims (Matt), Jeremy Watkins (Katie), Lindsay Josey, Kate Macias (Cruz), and Scout Josey; and five great-grandchildren, Brooks Oliver, Rhys Oliver, Hayden Sims, Brinlee Sims, and Charlie Watkins; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first born grandchild, Ashley Alley.
A private, family graveside service will be held at Yonah Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Whitfield Funeral Homes & Crematory, North Chapel at 245 Central Avenue, Demorest, Georgia 30535. Telephone: 706-778-1700.
