The Habersham Christian Learning Center (HCLC) is holding its annual fundraising meeting on Saturday, March 1 at Copey Creek off Hardman Road in Clarkesville.

This year’s fundraiser is a morning event called Bring-a-Friend Brunch.

“This is our biggest fundraising of the year,” Sarah Harrison, Director and teacher of HCLC, said. “We want to invite everyone to come and learn about HCLC and the impact we are making in the lives of students.”

Habersham Christian Learning Center, located at 188 Owens Circle in Mt. Airy, GA, is a place where students can learn about life situations in a Biblical way. Opened in 1982, many students have found Christ, enhanced their lives, and learned better ways to live through the classes taken at HCLC, according to its supporters.

Harrison started working for HCLC as a teacher in 2017 and has seen the impact HCLC has on students over and over. The nonprofit Center is funded through community and private donations and is not operated by the school system. As such, it relies on its annual fundraising efforts to keep the doors open.

This year’s fundraising event will start at 9:30 a.m. with a pancake breakfast at 10 a.m. The gathering will include music and a presentation celebrating HCLC over the years.

Brian Buffington will be this year’s keynote speaker. He is an educator innovator who inspires thousands of teachers, administrators, and students worldwide. Known for his Buff Nuggets newsletter, he delves into creative ways to use technology to center students.

About HCLC

Now in its 23rd year, HCLC offers seven courses of study from which students can choose. Some end up taking all of the classes available.

The four core classes are Life and Work Planning, a course setting priorities, planning for the future, and financial and educational planning. Survival Strategies equips students to manage stress and cope with and prevent loneliness, anxiety, depression, and suicide with a specific focus on how a Godly perspective provides hope. Dating and Relationships offers healthy ways to manage relationships through communication skills, Biblical virtues and values. Knowing and Growing introduces the foundations of the Christian faith and present time-tested methods to grow.

“Many people are under the impression that HCLC is associated with the school system and supported with federal and state money. We are not,” Harrison explained. “Our funding comes from donations.”
