Luke 1:29-32 reads, “Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David, and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end.'”
What a mouthful of information for a young teenage girl to hear. In her studies of the Word, I am sure she knew of the prophecy. She knew the King was destined to come and save them. She knew He would be born of a virgin. “But me?” she must have questioned in her mind.
“Mary was greatly troubled…” I should say so! Being presently promised to a man named Joseph, she understood the law. If she became pregnant, dishonor would fall on her, her family, her future husband, if in fact he remained her husband. As her fiance, he could have her stoned to death. As my grandmother liked to say, “She had every right to be ‘sweating like a sinner in church’.”
What about you? Do you feel God calling you to do something? Do you feel a stirring in your spirit? Troubling, isn’t it? Because all the ‘what ifs’ can torment your mind. Maybe He is telling you to leave your current job? Maybe you need to take a stand against something you are doing? Maybe you need to get healthy and change your lifestyle? Maybe you need to witness to someone or bring them to church? Maybe you need to go to church?
“But how?” we ask. “What if this…What if that…” Oh, how we ‘what if’ God! The angel’s words to Mary are to us too. “Do not be afraid, Mary… Mike… Connie… Renee… David… Daniel…(your name), you have found favor with God.”
What is God asking of you? Why aren’t you willing to do it?
Today, communicate with Him. Tell Him of your willingness to fulfill the purpose He has for you. Ask Him to help you have the faith to move forward. Start doing what you know needs to be done.
But me? YES, you!
“What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be
against us?” – Romans 8:31.
