GSP: Wet roads played a part in moving truck wreck [VIDEO]

The Georgia State Patrol says wet roads played a role in a wreck that shut down part of Cannon Bridge Road for nearly two hours on Thursday.

A box truck carrying furniture and household materials overturned just north of Squirrel Trail.

The box truck was traveling north on GA 105/Cannon Bridge Road when its right wheels ran off the shoulder of the road. The truck traveled a short distance along the roadside. The driver told the investigating State Trooper that he looked down and “when he looked back up, the vehicle had traveled off the roadway.”

The driver, 50-year-old Kenneth C. Wright of Lumberton, New Jersey, pulled the truck back onto the road and traveled across the center line. He overcorrected, causing the truck to lose traction on the wet pavement, according to TPR Trent Kirchhefer of Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa.

The truck began rotating clockwise and overturned onto its driver’s side. It then slid a short distance before coming to a rest across both lanes of traffic.

No other vehicles were involved and no one was injured.

The Georgia State Patrol, Demorest Fire, Habersham County Emergency Services and Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. They shut down Cannon Bridge Road between Cap Fry and Pea Ridge Roads while a tow truck pulled the truck upright and crews cleared the scene.

Cannon Bridge Road was reopened by 10 a.m.

The truck ran off the right shoulder of the road.

It took took tow truck operators and emergency crews about two hours to clear the wreckage.
