A 23-year-old Mt. Airy man was sent to the hospital following a wreck Monday morning in Mt. Airy.

The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) says Jordan Wade sustained suspected serious injuries in the crash on GA 365 at GA 197 South.

State troopers say Wade was driving a Toyota Corolla north on GA 365 around 8:13 a.m. when he ran the red light. The Corolla struck a Chevrolet Silverado in the intersection.

Wade told authorities he was unable to see the traffic light. Witness accounts backed up his account that he was blinded by the sun. The investigating trooper did not charge him.

The Silverado driver, 57-year-old Larry W. Shepheard of Gainesville, sustained possible minor injuries in the collision. He was taken by personal vehicle to Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) in Demorest. Emergency personnel transported Wade to NGMC Gainesville for treatment.

The trooper says both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.
