A motorcyclist from Mt. Airy was seriously injured in Cornelia late Saturday when an SUV struck him head-on.
It happened at 10 p.m. at the entrance to McDonalds on Level Grove Road.
The State Patrol says a 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling east on Level Grove. A 2004 Yamaha R1 motorcycle was traveling west. The driver of the SUV, 18-year-old Mireya Negrete Ramirez of Alto, attempted to turn left into the McDonalds parking lot. She failed to yield, according to the Georgia State Patrol, and turned into the path of the oncoming motorcycle.
The crash seriously injured the motorcycle driver, identified as 32-year-old Christopher Ivester. EMS transported him by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.
The wreck did not injure Ramirez. The State Trooper charged her with failure to yield while turning left.
