The driver of a vehicle that crashed on GA 365 North in Cornelia Friday night was treated at the hospital for possible minor injuries, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
38-year-old Sonia Hendrix of Franklin, North Carolina, says she was experiencing a medical emergency and was driving to the hospital when the accident occurred. The State Patrol’s preliminary crash report states the Audi 5 Hendrix was driving ran off the shoulder of the highway. The car struck a guardrail, crossed both northbound lanes, and struck a cable barrier in the median.
A driver who witnessed the crash called 911. Habersham County dispatchers sent emergency units to the scene shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 8.
The witness recounted on social media watching the car “spin out” and crash.
“I’m still shook,” she said hours after the incident. “It was a scary thing to witness and I just pray the people in the car are going to be ok.”
Hendrix says she wants to get in touch with the caller to thank her.
The accident spurred a heavy emergency response. The highway was closed for nearly an hour as troopers investigated the crash and crews cleared the wreckage.
The road reopened at 8:20 p.m., dispatchers said.
