If you have ever been interested in learning Self-Defense, Sheriff Rick Kelley and the White County Sheriff’s Office are offering a Women’s Self-Defense Course at no cost as part of their continuation of Community Outreach efforts.

It is a one-day, eight-hour basic instruction course. The objective is to focus on identifying and reacting to possible dangerous situations. Participants can expect both classroom and physical instruction.

The class is scheduled for Friday, September 13, 2024, beginning at 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Space is limited and is open to residents of White County, Georgia.

In the morning, women learn about awareness and how to stay safe. There will be a break for lunch. Participants can bring their lunch or go out for lunch. The afternoon session is more physical, showing women how to defend themselves when necessary.

“Our Use of Force Unit teaches the course. Sgt. Daren Welborn is an excellent instructor and will be teaching the class,” Investigator Megan Bennett of the White County Sheriff’s Office said.

“Our objective is to make sure that people know how to be aware of their surroundings and act accordingly.”

Bennett emphasized the importance of letting them know if you have physical limitations so that they can adjust to your individual needs.

“Sometimes people have a bad back or injured knees and hips, and we can instruct according to their limitations,” Bennett added.

You can apply online at www.WhiteCountySheriffsOffice.com or pick up an application at the Sheriff’s Office located at 1210 Hulsey Road, Cleveland.

The class is limited to 12 participants but if needed, an additional class can be opened.

Please contact Inv. Megan Bennett, 706-865-5177, with any questions, or by email at [email protected].

A notary will be made available, per request, at the White County Sheriff’s Office at no charge for this application only.
