
RALEIGH, N.C. – The Piedmont women’s lacrosse team could not keep pace in a rematch with Methodist in the USA South semifinals, falling by a final score of 14-11. The loss concludes the year for the Lions who posted a 13-6 record overall.
The Monarchs were able to strike quickly in the opening period with a goal just twenty seconds in and another before the first minute of play occurred. The Lions were able to settle in and strike back as Merryn Bumpass scored making it 2-1, but Methodist reeled off another three straight.
That led to a 5-1 lead for the Monarchs with Piedmont able to tack on one before the end of the first with Ava Trankina scoring her lone goal of the game.
Piedmont was outscored 5-2 in the first period and that was the only period Piedmont would not keep pace with the Monarchs. The Lions pulled within two multiple times but could get no closer as the Monarchs stayed just out of reach.
The Lions had six different goal scorers in the game led by Savannah Limehouse who scored three. Rachel Verner earned the start in her final contest making three saves.
TURNING POINT:
– Methodist jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the first period and that three goal difference proved to be the deficit in the end.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
– Savannah Limehouse led Piedmont with three goals and a pair of caused turnovers.
