Women’s lacrosse coasts by Averett 18-4

DANVILLE, Va. – The Piedmont women’s lacrosse team earned its first win of the season Saturday with an impressive 18-4 defeat of Averett University on the road. The win marks the first under Head Coach Brooke Thacker.

Averett jumped out in front early, but that lead was short-lived as the Lions would score seven of the next eight goals on the board to take a 7-2 lead. Lovette Choloh scored all three of her goals in that stretch as one of two Lions to tack on three goals.

Ava Trankina also scored three in the contest while adding an assist on the opening goal for Piedmont.

At the half, Piedmont led 8-3 and would only surrender one goal in the final thirty minutes of play, outscoring the Cougars 10-1 in the second half.

Kellianne Schlosser earned the win in goal, surrendering the four goals in the game, while Rachel Verner entered and played the final 25+ minutes of action, making three saves.

Up next, Piedmont competes at Berry on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

TURNING POINT:
–Piedmont allowed just one second half goal after holding an 8-3 advantage at the break.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
Ava Trankina and Lovette Choloh led the way with four goals each as Trankina added an assist as well.
Maggi Spratlin and Aly Reece both added three assists to end with five points in the contest.
