JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The Piedmont University women’s golf team began competition at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Friday sitting in 13th place as a team. The Lions shot a 333 team score led by Erin Donovan with a 79.
Donovan’s 79 in round one came after a tough start with a double on her first hole of the day, but the sophomore managed to shoot seven pars on the back nine and sit at three over. She had two doubles on the day and finished +7 for round one.
Keegan Goins and Sarah Fox both carded 83s as Fox managed two birdies on 5 and 17 while Goins made birdie on eight.
Shelby Clark tacked on two birdies but ended the round with an 88 while Abigail Evans shot a 93.
The University of Redlands leads the event after a 306 team score in round one while Andrea York of Redlands leads the event shooting one over, 73.
Up next for Piedmont, the Lions will compete in round two on Saturday.
