One lucky driver walked away from a horrifying crash with a logging truck Tuesday morning in Habersham County. It happened around 10:20 a.m. on GA 365 North just past Mount Zion Road near the Habersham/Hall County line.

Video and photos from the scene show logs rammed through the windshield of a white Honda CRV. The accident demolished the front passenger side of the compact SUV but missed the driver’s seat.

The State Patrol says 27-year-old Chelsi Colburn of Braselton was driving the SUV. 35-year-old Ched Welch of Rabun Gap was driving the truck. Trooper Trent Kirchhefer says Welch had just completed a left-hand turn onto GA 365 from Mount Zion Road when the SUV rear-ended him.

The logging truck carried the SUV a short distance before stopping on the west shoulder of the highway.

Miraculously, Colburn walked away from the crash with only minor injuries. She was up and walking around before an ambulance transported her to the hospital, according to Habersham County Emergency Services Director Chad Black.

Colburn was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment. Black says she was “very lucky.”

Welch was not injured in the wreck. No charges were filed.
