A woman is dead after she was found shot at an animal hospital in Royston.
Authorities confirmed the woman was found on Nov. 26 with a gunshot wound at Royston Animal Hospital before she later died. Franklin Springs Police Chief Kevin Thompson said police were dispatched to the animal hospital at 2888 West Main Street just after 11:40 a.m. in response to a “trauma-specific” event.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the unconscious woman who’d appeared to have been shot. She was transported to St. Mary’s Sacred Heart Hospital in Lavonia where she later died, according to police.
Thompson said this is a “self-contained” incident and that there’s no threat to the public.
“Today is a sad day for our community and what we need now from everyone is prayers for the family and those affected by today’s event…” Thompson said in a news release.
Police have not yet released the identity of the female victim.
On Wednesday, Nov. 27, a call to Royston Animal Hospital prompted an automated response that said the facility was closed “due to an emergency.”
The incident remains under investigation. This article will be updated as more information becomes available.
