Woman critical after domestic-related shooting in Gainesville

A Gainesville area man is in jail charged with aggravated assault in a domestic-related shooting early Wednesday, police say.

Around 1 a.m. on October 12, police responded to the Midtown Villages at 854 Davis Street. Inside the apartment, they found a 44-year-old female shot multiple times. Officers rendered medical aid until EMS arrived, a press release from the Gainesville Police Department says. The woman was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in critical condition.

Responding officers located the suspected shooter, Kenneth Brown. After a brief foot chase, police took the 50-year-old Brown into custody. During the arrest, police say Brown refused officer commands and they used a taser on him.

Brown is currently being held in the Hall County Jail on the aggravated assault charges. Police say more charges are pending against him.

“We are thankful for the quick responding officers who provided medical assistance to the victim and the officers who quickly and safely apprehended the dangerous suspect,” says Gainesville Police Chief Jay Parrish.

Parrish continued, saying, “October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month; this is a solemn reminder of the dangers that many face on a daily basis. Domestic violence is prevalent in every community and affects all people regardless of age or socio-economic status. We encourage this who are living with domestic violence to seek help.”
