Wilma Joan McClure Simmons

Wilma Joan McClure Simmons, age 74, of Clarkesville, Georgia, took her Heavenly flight home on Thursday, June 03, 2021, following an extended illness.

Born in Commerce, Georgia, on May 02, 1947, she was a daughter of the late William Howard & Emma Lois Craig McClure. Joan was a homemaker and supported her husband in ministering the gospel of Jesus Christ for many years. In her spare time, she enjoyed canning vegetables, snapping beans, watching bluebirds & squirrels, storytelling with her grandchildren & great-grandchildren. Joan was a devoted wife & mother. She was affectionately known as “Mammie” to her grandchildren & great-grandchildren. Most of all, Joan was a true prayer warrior for her family & friends. She was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Rev. William Hoyt “Buz” Simmons, son-in-law, Rev. Anthony Eugene Hooker, sister-in-law & brother-in-law, June Simmons Allison & David Allison; brother & sister-in-law, William Howard, Jr. & Lisa McClure; & brother-in-law, Jimmy Wood.

Survivors include her daughters & son-in-law, Angela Lynn Hooker of Maysville, GA; Amy Denise & John F. Moon of Clarkesville, GA; grandchildren, Megan Rose Moon; John Avery Moon; Andrew Hooker; Kyle & Sarah Hooker; Daniel Hooker; Elizabeth Hooker; great-grandchildren, Sadie Hooker & Ayden Eash; sisters & brother-in-law, Barbara Jean McClure Wade & Dwight Wade of Maysville, GA; Alma Rumelle McClure Wood of Commerce, GA; brother & sister-in-law, James Melvin & Reba McClure of Commerce, GA; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Gary Lane & Melinda Simmons of Woodstock, GA; Lamar Young & Pat Simmons of Gainesville, GA; Dale Irvin & Ann-Sofi Simmons of Alto, GA; Alan Eugene & Lillian Lynn Simmons of Louisiana; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, & friends.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 06, 2021, at Hillside Memorial Chapel in Clarkesville, with Rev. Gene Hooker officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Gardens Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday.
