Willie Joe Lunsford, age 86, of the New Liberty Community, passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2022.
Born on September 28, 1935, in Carnesville, he was the son of the late Eugene Thomas Lunsford and Jewell Patterson Lunsford. Mr. Lunsford was retired from Fieldale where he was a Field Supervisor. He was an avid outdoorsman, who was especially fond of hunting with his wife and fishing. He was a member of the Soque Hunting Club and enjoyed spending time with his hunting friends. In his spare time, he also enjoyed gardening. Mr. Lunsford loved his family and friends and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Robert Lunsford and Frank Lunsford; great-grandson, Cody Cheyenne Holbrooks.
Survivors include his loving wife, Hazel Reems Lunsford of Clarkesville; son and daughter-in-law, Terry Lee Lunsford (Tammy) of Gainesville; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy Ann Watts (Joe) of Clarkesville, and Judy Diane Kimbrell (Johnny) of Cornelia; grandchildren and spouses, Jerry Lee Holbrooks, Glenn Christopher Mauney (Karen), William Nathan Mauney, Kayleigh Nicole Moncada (Jason), Megan Elaine Haynes (Austin); great-grandchildren, Dylan Holbrooks, Jacob Mauney, Chloe Mauney, and Noah Mauney; sisters and brother-in-law, June Short of Demorest, and Edna Sue Dover (Richard) of Hollywood; special hunting friends, Susan and Phillip Charles, Bill and Barbara Pitts, and Gene and Lois Martin.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Friday, August 12, 2022, in the Chapel at McGahee-Griffin and Stewart with Dr. John Wyatt officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 2–4 and 6–8 on Thursday, August 11, 2022, at the funeral home.
