Wilkinson Receives ACCG Legislative Service Award

ATLANTA (September 28, 2015) | The Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) has honored Sen. John Wilkinson (R – Toccoa) with the 2015 Legislative Service Award.

“ACCG works incredibly hard to ensure county officials and local governments are operating in their most efficient form,” said Sen. Wilkinson. “I’m honored to be acknowledged by such a great organization, especially one that provides our local governments with the fundamental knowledge and infrastructure needed for continued fiscal health.”

“We are elated to continue the recognition of our state leaders with the ACCG Legislative Service Awards program,” said ACCG Executive Director Ross King. “This awards program has grown tremendously and maintains its status as a prestigious honor amongst our state lawmakers.”

“Sen. Wilkinson worked tirelessly with his colleagues at the state capitol to ensure that SB 82 was signed by March 31 which prevented 48 counties from losing revenue,” said ACCG Associate Legislative Director Shaun Adams. “This effort was just one of many in which his work under the Gold Dome resulted in a benefit to our county governments. He regularly engages his local officials on issues of significance to counties and is supportive of ACCG’s key legislative initiatives.”

During the 2015 legislative session, Sen. Wilkinson sponsored Senate Bill 82, regarding the IRP truck distribution formula which was passed and signed by Gov. Nathan Deal on March 31. Sen. Wilkinson’s commitment to this legislation saved 48 of Georgia’s counties from losing revenue due to prior changes in the distribution formula. SB 82 had to be signed by the Governor no later than March 31 in order to ensure the new formula would be effective prior to the planned distribution date.
