Wildland fire field training exercise Saturday

(Cleveland)- White County Emergency Services will be conducting a coordinated wildland fire field training exercise this Saturday, at the Sky Lake community in Sautee.

David Murphy White County Public Safety Director said, the purpose of the event is to conduct a multi-agency training exercise with residents in the wildland urban interface. It is designed to help all involved better understand resource capacity, strengthen cooperator relationships and abilities of those involved plus it offers opportunities for public education and awareness, and finally showcase existing collaborative efforts.”

Participants will include White County Fire Service, White County EMA, White County EMS, White County Sheriff’s Office, White County CERT, Georgia Forestry Commission, and the US Forest Service along with several Sky Lake residents.

The live exercise will run from 9am until 12noon. There will be no live fire nor smoke used, only simulations.

Afterwards participants will conduct an after action review in order to gain more insight into what they can learn from this exercise.

According to Murphy, this exercise is a component of the current Fire Adapted Communities Learning Network efforts that are ongoing in White County.
