White County officials met today to formalize an agreement for Mutual Aid with Camp Merrill in Dahlonega. A mutual aid agreement has been in place for several years, and this regional mutual aid update has been planned since late 2019.
This mutual aid agreement allows for resources to be deployed in the event of natural disasters or emergencies that overwhelm the resources of White County and our regional partners. This mutual aid includes rescue services, fire, and law enforcement functions.
“This agreement is vital to White County and our region. Camp Merrill/Fort Benning on behalf of the Department of Army, have a lot of valuable assets that will help provide safety and security to the citizens of White County and their property.” Stated David Murphy, Director of Emergency Management.
“We have used their services mostly on wilderness rescues on Yonah Mountain, when rangers have been training. We have also trained and exercised with the rangers units.”
