White County sheriff warns of phone scam

(Cleveland)- Telephone scammers are now targeting Social Security recipients in White County and you need to be on alert.

White County Sheriff Neal Walden said his office has received reports of the scammers calling and telling those who answer, there is a problem with their Social Security number or account and you need to call a number they give to correct it.  Some scammers even say if you do not contact them immediately, your account will be deactivated.

Walden said,  don’t believe them and never provide information about your Social Security number or bank accounts on the phone.

Walden said he actually called the number that was given to one caller and when he identified himself as being with the White County Sheriff’s Office the person on the other end hung up immediately.

Please share this with family members or friends who could possibly become a victim.
