White County seeks film industry business

(Cleveland)- White County has been the location for movie production in the past and  County officials want to see that type of business return to the area.

Earlier this week county officials met with  Lee Thomas the Deputy Commissioner of the Georgia Film, Music & Digital Entertainment Office, a division of the Georgia Department of Economic Development. They talked with her and pointed out some possible locations for movie or TV production in the county.

Commission Chairman Travis Turner said Thomas seemed to be impressed with several locations in the county,  including the lake at Yonah Preserve, some rural farms and even the old White County Jail facility.  Thomas talked to the White County Rotary Club on Tuesday and said, Georgia offers a good tax incentive to the film industry to do business here.  When those production companies set up in a city or county they spend a lot of money.

She also said they have a huge database of locations in the state that companies can look at and choose which meets their particular need.

Travis Turner said White County is working to update and add to the information about White County on that database, which includes unique filming locations and county resources.

Jerry Brown, Executive Director of Alpine Helen/White County Convention and Visitors Bureau is the local contact for the movie and entertainment interest.
