Breakfast and lunch will be free to all White County public school students this year, regardless of household income. The meals will be provided through the same federally funded program in which Habersham County is enrolled.
White County School Nutrition Director Abby Rowland announced that the school system is participating in the USDA Community Eligibility Provision. The program is open to everyone, so families will not have to complete an application for their students to participate.

Rowland said a la carte items will still be available for sale in each of the school’s cafeterias. These snacks, beverages, and additional food choices may be purchased through students’ meal accounts or with cash. Rowland encourages parents to ensure their child’s account has sufficient funds to cover such purchases.
While meals will be provided free of charge under this program, any unpaid balances on school meal accounts from previous years must still be settled. Rowland says participating in CEP does not erase or forgive outstanding debts accrued prior to its implementation.
