This week, the White County Board of Education approved a tentative budget for fiscal year 2024.
In presenting the budget figures to the board, school system director of finance Julie Dorsey said they expect some increases on the revenue side but increases on the expense side will absorb all of those increases. The budget calls for $989,000 in fund balance to be used to fill the gap.
White County Board of Education Chair Missy Jarrard said the $46.9 million budget includes salary increases for some vital employees.
“Within that budget, we are including a 5.1 percent salary increase for all of our classified personnel, which is well deserved and well needed.”
She said those positions – including paraprofessionals and bus drivers – are vital to the school system.
“We cannot carry on without those vital staff members,” said Jarrard.
The tentative budget will be placed out there for the public’s review, and the board will hold required public hearings before making a final decision on the budget.
