A White County resident escaped an early morning fire that destroyed their home, according to a news release from the White County Public Safety Department.

The fire broke out around 5 a.m. on Saturday, July 13 at a residence in the area of Bayberry Lane and Skitts Mountain Road.

When the first fire crews arrived, they found the modular home fully engulfed in flames, says White County Public Information Officer Bryce Barrett. The resident safely evacuated before the units arrived.

“Firefighters promptly made attack and began combatting the structure fire and fire that had spread to nearby vegetation,” says Barrett.

Personnel from the White County and Cleveland fire departments, White County EMS, EMA, and sheriff’s office responded to the scene. EMA deployed a drone to monitor the situation.

Barrett says the home was a total loss. The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
