(Cleveland)- White County Health officials have advised several dogs had contact recently with a rabid raccoon in the Mt. Scenic Drive area, off Highway 129 near the White/Hall County line.
White County Public Safety Director David Murphy said the raccoon was shipped to the Georgia Public Health Lab – Virology Section in Decatur.
He said White County Environmental Health was advised Tuesday, that the raccoon tested positive for rabies.
This is the fourth confirmed case of rabies in White County this year.
According to Murphy, positive alert signs will be posted in the area where the rabid raccoon was located.
White County Environmental Health Manager Sean Sullivan says a total of six dogs were involved. Three owned by one family were not current on their vaccinations and were put down Wednesday.
The other three dogs, owned by a different family, were current on their shots and are under a 45 day observation.
