COVID deaths in White County reached an all-time high this month and the push is on to get county residents vaccinated.
On September 25, White County recorded its 100th COVID-related death, according to data from the Georgia Department of Public Health. Twenty-two of those county residents died this month alone. There were 34 COVID deaths in White County in 2020. In the first nine months of this year, there have been 66.
As is the case across much of the state, COVID cases in White County are down. The county’s two-week test positivity rate dropped from 26.5% on August 30 to 11.7% on September 30. Still, state public health officials warn of another possible surge around Thanksgiving and they’re urging Georgians to get vaccinated now.
To help facilitate that, White County has re-opened its mass vaccination site at The Bridge Church in Cleveland. The health department will begin administering all doses of the Pfizer vaccine, first and second doses of the Moderna vaccine as well as the one dose J&J vaccine. No appointment is necessary.
The Bridge Church at 607 Hulsey Road will be open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays.
In addition, the White County Health Department will be open for vaccine distribution this Saturday, October 2 from 8 a.m. until Noon.
Other Northeast Georgia area mass COVID vaccination sites are open in Forsyth and Hall counties. The Forsyth County site is located at Northside Forsyth Hospital, Suite 360. Hall County’s site is set up at the Chicopee Woods Agricultural Center located at 1855 Calvary Church Road in Gainesville. Both sites are open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8:30 a.m. to 12 Noon on Saturdays.
