A White County detainee, who walked away from a work detail Monday afternoon has been taken into custody. White County Sheriff Chief Deputy Bob Ingram advised Tuesday afternoon that 37-year old Christopher Roy Helton of Clermont was captured with the assistance from the Hall County Sheriff’s office.
Helton, a non violent offender was working along with two other inmates at the courthouse in Cleveland, when he decided to leave. Ingram said, Helton was transported back to the White County Detention Center, where he will remain as he faces additional charges for escape.
White County Sheriff Neal Walden said, Monday that this is the first prisoner to walk away from a work detail in very long time.
