The storm that swept through Northeast Georgia late Thursday caused quite a scare for some White County residents when lightning struck and caught their house on fire.
The fire broke out shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday at a home located at 482 Peaceful Valley Drive. The residents called White County 911 and reported that the house was full of smoke and they believed a lightning strike caused it.
White County firefighters responded with mutual aid from the City of Cleveland Fire Department and Lee Arrendale Fire Brigade. When they arrived, they found moderate smoke conditions through the residence.
“After the initial investigation, firefighters made entry into the basement level and quickly extinguished the fire,” says White County Public Services Director David Murphy. He says the fire did not extend to the upper levels of the home.
Firefighters remained on the scene for approximately three hours.
There were no injuries reported. The incident was turned over to investigations.
