White County home damaged after chimney fire spread

(Cleveland)- No one was injured as a result of a chimney fire early Friday morning in White County. The fire call came into 9-1-1 dispatch at 5:20 AM. White County Public Safety spokeswoman Ana Newberry said, fire units from stations 2, 4, and City of Cleveland were dispatched to 401 Mary Davidson Drive in Cleveland, after a chimney fire had extended to the walls of the structure.

Newberry said, upon arrival of fire units, heavy smoke was visible from the exterior of the home and flames could be seen coming from the top of the chimney; the occupants were safely outside. Firefighters entered the structure and used an extinguisher to try and put the fire out.

A roof ladder was then used because the fire had extended into the attic area. Once the wall surface was removed, a quick knock down occurred.

According to Newberry, the American Red Cross was called for the family; no injuries were reported. Firefighters were on scene for about 2 hours.

Newberry had a gentle reminder to all homeowners with a chimney, have your chimneys professionally inspected and cleaned at least once a year to help prevent this type of incident.
