White County High senior wins state literary competition

Anyone who’s seen her perform on stage at the Habersham Community Theater knows Katharine Ivey is talented. Now, many more people in Georgia know just how talented she is.

Ivey recently won first place in the 4A Oral Interpretation, Dramatic category at the 2019 Georgia High School Association Literary State Championships.

The competition was held March 16 at Veterans High School in Houston County.

This was Ivey’s second year making it to the state finals. Last year she was runner up in the solo dramatic oral interpretation.

Ivey put into first person and edited (to meet time limits) Susan Glaspel’s short story “A Jury of Her Peers.” Glaspel wrote the piece in 1917. Ivey enacted six different characters during the competition, according to WRWH Radio.

A senior at White County High School, Ivey spent seven months preparing for the competition. She hopes to continue forensics competition when she attends the University of North Georgia.
