The White County Grand Jury returned 26 true bills of indictment this week after convening on Monday, October 7, and Tuesday, October 8. One case was tabled.
Kayla Brooke Osburn, 26, of Commerce, was among those indicted. Osburn faces charges of 1st-degree vehicular homicide in connection with the April 2023 death of 26-year-old Wendell Lovell of Cleveland.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, Lovell was killed when Osburn’s vehicle crossed the center line and struck Lovell’s pickup truck on GA 115, causing it to overturn. The 62-year-old Army veteran died at the scene. The grand jury also indicted Osburn for DUI.
Indictments were also handed down against 34-year-old Amber Nicole Bengel of Cleveland and 32-year-old Kayla Ann Bengel of Baldwin. They were indicted on two counts each of cruelty to children.
A White County Sheriff’s deputy arrested the pair on August 13.
The Grand Jury presented its report to White County Superior Court on October 9.
