White County firefighters extinguished a structure fire that officials believe started in the chimney of a home on Friday night, according to White County spokesperson Bryce Barrett.

At 8:41 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21, White County fire crews responded to a report of a structure fire at a residence on Autumn Hill Road in the Panorama Estates neighborhood.

Upon arrival, first responders found heavy black smoke billowing from the roof of a multi-story home. Firefighters quickly assessed the situation and moved to battle the flames from inside the residence. The fire was contained before it could spread throughout much of the structure.

After the blaze was extinguished, a drone from White County Emergency Management, UAS1, was deployed to provide aerial surveillance and monitor for any remaining hotspots.

While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, early reports suggest it may have originated from the home’s chimney. The Georgia State Fire Marshal’s Office is leading the investigation into the incident.

No injuries were reported, according to officials. Fire personnel remained on-site throughout the evening to ensure all safety measures were in place.
