White County declares September as National Recovery Month, honors local teacher

Proclamations designate special observances in September

September has been designated as National Recovery Month in White County by the White County Board of Commissioners. The month is dedicated to recognizing those who have recovered from substance abuse.

Shelley Sidders, executive director of Bridge Recovery Resource Center in Cleveland, was awarded a proclamation for her work in supporting recovery at the commission’s August 26 meeting. The Georgia Recovers Bus Tour event will be held on September 11 in Cleveland.

The Georgia Recovers Bus Tour is a recovery celebration that will connect the community with those who have found recovery. The event runs from 6 to 8 p.m. at Freedom Park in Cleveland.

September 1 has been named Holly Witcher Day in White County. Teacher Holly Witcher was also recognized by the commissioners at their August 26 meeting. They designated September 1 as Holly Witcher Day.

The Georgia Department of Education named Witcher as this year’s Georgia State Teacher of the Year.
