White County has extended its contractual agreement with BCA Studios of Gainesville and Atlanta to provide architecture and engineering services for projects at the Yonah Preserve Recreation Center. The contract will include the design of a two-court gymnasium and community center, and splash pad area.
The board of commissioners gave their approval during their called meeting Monday.
As part of their discussion about this item, Commission Chairman Travis Turner said they are expected to meet in a month or so to add to the scope of services for BCA Services to include design work for a new library/media center in the county.
After the meeting, Turner said he had learned more about the processes involved in applying for state grants for a new library.
In that process, Turner said it is becoming very clear that the county needs to engage an architect very early in the application process. So given that BCA Studios architectural firm is already working on current projects and has a good depth of experience with libraries and the steps required in the grant project, it is important to have them designated as the architect of record for the process.
“This is early in the process,” said Turner, adding that it could take a couple of years from the grant application to designs. “Our initial plans are to look at library designs that might be incorporated into our new property located on Highway 129 North in Cleveland.”
