White County begins search for new county manager

Travis Turner

(Cleveland)- With this week’s announcement that White County Manager Jason Cobb will be leaving his post next month, the White County Board of Commissioners are preparing to move forward with the recruitment process to fill that position.

White County Commission Chairman Travis Turner in a media release Friday said, “Staff will be preparing the posting for this position and White County will move forward with the search process as soon as possible.”

In the coming weeks, Turner said, “The Board will be evaluating the possibility of appointing an interim county manager based on the initial results of the search process.”

Commissioners are looking for candidates with certain qualities. “You’ve got to have someone who’s affluent in the legalese of county government, to be able to deal with state law, state agencies, as well as — I will be real with you — you’ve got to have a personality to deal with the public in a way that each of us wants to be dealt with,” said Turner.

Chairman Turner emphasized commissioners are committed to making a smooth transition.

Cobb surprised White County commissioners when he tendered his resignation on May 3. He’s been on the job for only a year and is leaving to pursue a private business opportunity. Cobb’s last day on the job is June 25.
