(Cleveland)- Bill Ballard head football coach for the White County Warriors has stepped down from that position. Coach Ballard is in his sixth year as the head coach at the school. A news release from Dr. Jeff Wilson, Superintendent of Schools said, “a winner of more than 100 games in his young career, Coach Ballard sited his desire to serve as “head coach” is just no longer there. He plans to stay on as the head track coach and help wherever he can. He loves living in White County with his family and being a part of the Warrior Family.”
Principal John Osborne said, “Bill is a very unselfish man and cares about the student athletes at White County. He has had tremendous success at other schools and gave up a lot to move his family to the mountains. He loves the lifestyle and quality of life in raising children in White County and desires to remain on the teaching staff and head up the track program.
Superintendent, Dr. Jeff Wilson said, “Coach Ballard has always been about building character in young men while trying to put the best product he could on the football field. He has had a very positive impact on the lives of many young men in White County and we are grateful for the time he has been here as our head football coach. I am excited Coach Ballard is planning on staying with us.”
Coach Ballard met with local reporters Tuesday afternoon and said, “ at this point in my career, I’ve been doing it 26 years and I kinda reached the point where being the head coach was a little bit too much for me on a daily basis. I’ve gotten to the point where I’d like to be an assistant coach and help somebody.” Ballard said the resignation is effective end of this school year, he said, “ finish my job this year, working with the kids.”
According to Athletic Director, Alan Griffin, White County High School will begin its search immediately for the next head football coach. The process will involve a search committee and at least two rounds of interviews. There is no date determined for when the interviews will be conducted or when a new coach will be announced. “
The announcement by Ballard comes as White County finished a 1-9 season in 2016.
