Along with the excitement of Friday’s White County Warrior homecoming football game against Gilmer County, those attending were greeted with newly-installed stadium seats at Warrior Stadium.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Laurie Burkett told the board of education Thursday night, “They look really good, you’ll be proud of them.”

The board of Education during their meeting approved spending $950,000 to install artificial turf on the White County High School football field. Dr. Burkett said they can recover most of the cost by saving on maintenance costs incurred with the current field, like at least $15,000 a year on grass cutting plus other expenses.

The life of the turf should be 10 to 12 years.

Burkett said the work can begin as early as February 2022 with the new turf ready by mid-May ready for next fall’s football season.
