(Cleveland)- White County took time to say “thank you” to two education officials who are leaving the school system. A reception for White County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jeff Wilson and High School Principal John Osborne was held last night prior to their final meeting of the board of education that both officially attended.
Dr. Wilson is leaving the system, after seven years of service, to be the superintendent of Floyd County Schools. Wilson told WRWH News he has enjoyed his time here. “I really can’t tell you how much I appreciate and have enjoyed being a part of this community. I’m going to miss it, there’s no doubt about it. This is a great place and they’re primed to continue to grow. I certainly wasn’t the reason our school system was doing as good as they are, I was just a piece of the puzzle. Laura Burkett was a great choice in my opinion, she will do a fantastic job in keeping us going in the direction we’re going. It’s been a really great day for me”.
Osborne is retiring, after eight years of service, from the school system but says he not ready to quit working. “I know this community has really appreciated me and I appreciate this community, it’s been a great marriage for eight years and this will always be a part of me, there’s no doubt about it, White County is a special place”.
The school board is set to meet on Monday to officially appoint Dr. Laurie Burkett as the new Superintendent of Schools.
