The social media platform TikTok, which has been directly tied to Chinese government surveillance, has been banned from all White County cell phones and internet devices.
The White County Board of Commissioners took that action during a meeting Tuesday. White County Commission Chairman Travis Turner said they wanted to follow Governor Brian Kemp’s directive to state agencies.
“To protect our citizens, to protect our internal technologies we have in the county we decided to mirror the state so that we don’t open up ourselves to any nefarious bad guys trying to access our internal network,” said Turner.
The commissioners included the action as part of an update of the county’s internal cell phone policy, to be more in line with state and federal policies.
The city of Cleveland has included the TiKTok ban as part of an updated personnel policy it’s currently working on.
