White County’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) graduated 5 new members into their highly trained Search and Rescue Team.
Anderson (AJ) Babb, Angie Roberts, Glenn Davis, Jean Davis, and Cynthia Tyler are all CERT Members who have now specialized to be part of the Search and Rescue Team under the CERT umbrella.
A vital asset, the Search and Rescue Team can be deployed throughout Northeast Georgia. It is a critical aid in locating missing or lost persons and providing emergency response support. This program includes extensive classroom instruction and field exercises. It covers critical skills including land navigation, wilderness first aid, man-tracking, and use of the SarTopo mapping platform.
“A special congratulations goes out to these graduates. These individuals did not only complete CERT Basic Training but also specialized to join the Search and Rescue team,” said David Murphy, Director of White County Public Safety. “I have seen first-hand the impact this team has in emergencies, and I appreciate the hard work and dedication that goes into it.”
White County CERT’s Search and Rescue Team assists local law enforcement and emergency services with locating missing/lost persons and rendering aid in rural, wilderness, or catastrophic environments.
The White County CERT program continues to recruit and train volunteers to expand their ability to support the community during emergencies and disasters. Residents interested in joining or learning more can email Leah Torregiano, CERT Coordinator, at [email protected].
