What are you waiting for?
Waiting is a tricky business. Sometimes we are waiting at the grocery store for a cashier line to open up, while in other seasons we are waiting on something much larger: the birth of a child, a new career path to unfold, or a pathology report. Waiting can bring about life change or it can simply usher us into the next part of our day. What are you waiting for?
“But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”
This scripture from 2 Peter 3:9-10 specifically references the coming of the Lord. Scripture promises that the Lord will come back. While some have grown weary of waiting, we should not lose hope because the Lord will keep His promises. This should also come as an encouragement to us in seasons of waiting. While it may seem like you waited forever for something, we do not perceive time as the Lord does. Rather, our response ought to be, “What is the Lord teaching me during this season of waiting?” or “Who would the Lord have me encounter/encourage during this time of waiting?” There is a purpose in the waiting that God keeps us in, and there is more to be gained from keeping our eyes open to the opportunities around us than from keeping our heads buried in the sand and hoping that the time will just go by.
With this in mind, let’s make the most of our waiting. Let us seek to be prepared, for the Lord will return in glory one day. “But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwell,” (2 Peter 13). Let us also seek to grow in patience, love, and awareness for those in need around us.
Waiting could be an opportunity to grow, so what are you waiting for?
